SAN ANTONIO -- Stanford women’s swimmers finished up the 2015 Phillips 66 National Championships Monday at Northside Swim Center.
"We had some ups and downs as a group this week. I am proud of the summer as a whole.” said associate head coach Tracy Duchac, who traveled to San Antonio while head coach Greg Meehan was in Kazan, Russia with Team USA for the World Championships. “They worked hard and really came together as a group. They are in better place then where they started, and that's what it's all about."
Felicia Lee ’14 highlighted the group by totaling 30 points individually, the 17th-best mark among the 135 swimmers that scored at least one. The Stanford graduate was second in the 100-meter butterfly (58.54) and sixth in the 100-meter freestyle (55.45).
Rising sophomore Ally Howe also impressed, as she won the B-final of the 100-meter backstroke. After narrowly missing the A-final with a 1:01.41 in prelims, Howe improved to 1:00.73 to take the secondary final with the sixth-best time of the meet.
Howe also finished 11th in the 200-meter backstroke with a time of 2:12.07.
“Ally Howe made some huge jumps with her backstroke,” said Duchac.
Stanford opens its season Sept. 25 at Washington State. The first home meet is scheduled for Oct. 16 against Utah at Avery Aquatic Center.
