STANFORD, Calif. – Foster Langsdorf scored one goal and assisted on another, Eric Verso assisted on both Cardinal goals and No. 16 Stanford tallied its third straight shutout win in a 2-0 victory over VCU at Cagan Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The Cardinal (3-1-0) concludes its three-game stretch at home on Thursday, September 10 at 6 p.m. against San Jose State (1-1-0) in another game televised on the Pac-12 Networks. Season tickets, mini plans and single-game seats are available by visiting gostanford.com/tickets or calling 800-STANFORD.
TURNING POINT: Langsdorf's goal in the 27th minute proved to be all Stanford would need against VCU (0-4-0). Eric Verso got the ball into the feet of Corey Baird, who turned at the corner of the 18 and lofted a perfect pass onto Langsdorf's head, which he deposited near post. The goal was the second for the sophomore in his 17th career game.
JEREMY GUNN: The first goal was an incredible cross by Corey and a wonderfully timed run by Foster. We've worked really hard on timing our runs in the box and as a program we're really proud of it. It was great execution.

NOT STOPPING THERE: The win was Stanford's first result of 2015 by something other than a 1-0 score line. Redshirt freshman Adam Mosharrafa netted his first career goal in the 68th minute when Verso and Langsdorf again were involved. Verso ran down a long service at the end line and crossed it into the box. Surrounded by three defenders and with his back to the goal, Langsdorf was able to use his heel and slide the ball to Mosharrafa, who was in the right place at the right time and fired his chance past VCU keeper Pierre Gardan.
JEREMY GUNN II: Adam is a lovely soccer player who is so clean with his passes. He's been a center back with us, but we know he can play different spots. We put him wide left today, purely based on the way he's been passing and moving, and he gets a chance and buries it. He was in the right place and I'm really happy for him.

SHUTOUT STREAK: Stanford, which last year led the Pac-12 in goals against average for the first time since 2002, has won three straight matches without allowing a goal. It's the longest streak for the Cardinal since it shut out six consecutive opponents in the middle of the 2007 season.
JEREMY GUNN III: VCU hit the post on the free kick and other than that Andrew [Epstein] wasn't troubled really. It is great team defending, solid back-four defending and the fact that we're passing and keeping the ball. The best form of defending is looking after the ball and being on it. I think we're succeeding in all those categories and as a result it's been tough to play against us.
NO PLACE LIKE HOME: The Cardinal is 11-1-4 in its last 16 matches on The Farm. Over that time, Stanford has outscored its opponents at home, 28-10, and not allowed more than one goal in any of the 16 contests.
U.S. SOCCER: Stanford was without the services of both junior forward Jordan Morris and freshman midfielder Amir Bashti against VCU. Earlier Sunday, Morris was added to the roster for the U.S. Men's National Team friendly against Brazil in Foxborough, Massachusetts on Tuesday night. Bashti is currently in Serbia with the U.S. Under-20 Men's National Team at the Stevan Vilotic-Cele Tournament.
