Cardinal Downs Devils

STANFORD, Calif. – Hayley Hodson and Brittany Howard combined for 24 kills as the seventh-ranked Stanford women's volleyball team swept No. 14 Arizona State, 25-17, 25-23, 25-9, Wednesday, at Maples Pavilion. The Cardinal improves to 14-5 overall and 8-3 in the Pac-12, while the Sun Devils drop to 17-5 and 6-5 in the conference.

Hodson led all players with 14 kills on .345 hitting to go with eight digs, two blocks and an ace. Howard finished with 10 kills, nine digs and two blocks for the Cardinal. As a team, Stanford out hit ASU .324 to .138 and led 11.0 to 4.0 in the block column.

Senior setter Madi Bugg spread the ball around, picking up 39 assists to go with six digs, four blocks and four kills. She also had three service aces, tying her with Kristin Klein (1988-91) for 10th all-time at Stanford with 113 career aces.

Senior outside hitter Jordan Burgess and redshirt sophomore middle blockers Merete Lutz and Ivana Vanjak all tallied six kills. Burgess finished with 10 digs and two blocks, while Lutz notched five blocks and Vanjak had six. Freshman libero Halland McKenna collected a match-high 11 digs.

Arizona State, playing without senior All-American Macey Gardner who is out for the remainder of the season with an ACL injury, was led by junior BreElle Bailey's 12 kills. Senior Whitney Follette finished with 11 kills, while sophomore libero Halle Harker totaled 11 digs.

Stanford wraps-up the week on Friday, Oct. 30 against 19th-ranked Arizona. First serve is scheduled for 8 p.m. PT on the Pac-12 Networks.
