STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford Athletics has sold out its ticket allotment for the 102nd Rose Bowl Game on Jan. 1 in Pasadena, California.
Stanford’s tickets were all accounted for three days after the matchup against Iowa was announced. Thanks to overwhelming local and national support from season ticket members, alumni and students, Stanford sold out of its initial allotment of just under 28,000 tickets before obtaining an additional block of approximately 2,000 tickets from the Rose Bowl Game, which features the largest institutional bowl ticket allotment of the year.
Thousands of alumni were accommodated through a lottery system that closed Saturday afternoon, while the remaining limited tickets designated for the student section were purchased on Monday morning.
Stanford fans continue to show they will enthusiastically travel to bowl games, having purchased all of the school's available tickets for its two previous Rose Bowl Game appearances, dating back to the 2012 season.
It will be the first-ever meeting between Stanford (11-2, 8-1 Pac-12) and Iowa (12-1, 8-0 Big Ten), and the fourth straight season the Cardinal will meet a Big Ten Conference opponent in a bowl game.
Stanford is making its school-record seventh straight bowl appearance. The Cardinal won the Pac-12 Conference title for the third time in four years with a 41-22 victory over USC on Dec. 5 at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California. It marked the fifth 11-win season for the Cardinal in the past six years.
This marks Stanford's 15th appearance in the Rose Bowl Game (third-most all-time), and the third trip to Pasadena in four years -- the last time the Cardinal accomplished that feat was a string of three consecutive appearances from 1934-36. The Cardinal won the 2012 edition of the contest over Wisconsin, and fell to Michigan State in 2013.
