STANFORD, Calif. – With just one preseason practice under its belt, the Stanford men’s volleyball team posted a 26-28, 25-23, 25-23, 25-15 win over the University of Saskatchewan in an exhibition match, Tuesday, at Maples Pavilion.

After a slow start, which included a .188 attack percentage in the opening set, Stanford found its rhythm by the fourth set to seal the win. The Cardinal hit .314 for the match while holding the Huskies to a .286 clip. Stanford finished 16-0-26 (.615) in the final set. Saskatchewan held an 11.0 to 4.0 advantage in blocks and edged the Cardinal in digs (33-30).

Senior middle blocker Conrad Kaminski led the Cardinal with 12 kills on 13 swings with just one error to hit .846. Senior outside hitter Madison Hayden also tallied 12 kills to go with four digs and a solo block, while redshirt junior Gabriel Vega finished with 10 kills and four digs.

Senior setter James Shaw, who missed much of the 2015 season due to injury, was back in the starting lineup. The Woodside, California native racked up 46 assists and three blocks in the win. He also tallied six kills on nine errorless attacks.

Freshman Jordan Ewert earned the start at outside hitter and totaled nine kills and four digs. Redshirt sophomore Kevin Rakestraw registered seven kills and three consecutive aces for the Cardinal, while sophomore libero Evan Enriques finished with a match-high 11 digs.

Andrew Nelson led Saskatchewan with 16 kills and four blocks. Jordan Nowakowski added 10 kills on a .500 attack percentage for the Huskies.

The Cardinal and Huskies will square off again on Wednesday, Dec. 30 for another exhibition contest. First serve is slated for 7 p.m. PT in Maples Pavilion.
