STANFORD, Calif. - No. 7 Stanford blanked Santa Clara 7-0 on Monday afternoon in its season opener at Taube Family Tennis Stadium.
The Cardinal (1-0) claimed a 1-0 lead after breezing through doubles, with its top two tandems surrendering only three games combined.
Taylor Davidson coasted a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Madison Clarke at the No. 1 spot, extending Stanford’s lead to 2-0. It was the third time in Davidson’s career she has not surrendered a game in either set, having also accomplished the feat twice as a freshman.
After Kimberly Yee’s 6-1, 6-0 victory on court six made it 3-0, the Cardinal secured the match when Caroline Doyle provided her 10th career clincher with a 6-2, 6-0 triumph at the No. 2 spot.
Krista Hardebeck added a 6-2, 6-1 win at the No. 3 position. Yee, along with fellow rookies Caroline Lampl and Melissa Lord posted wins in their respective dual match debuts.
Stanford travels to Nashville, Tenn., later this week for a neutral-site match against No. 25 Mississippi and road contest at No. 1 Vanderbilt.
