Beavers Bested

CORVALLIS, Ore - Senior Rosco Allen and junior Marcus Allen combined for nearly half of Stanford's scoring as the Cardinal held off Oregon State, 78-72, on Wednesday night at Gill Coliseum to give Stanford's Anne and Tony Joseph Director of Men's Basketball, Johnny Dawkins his 150th career victory.

Rosco Allen led the Cardinal with 21 points on 3-for-5 shooting from beyond the arc, while Marcus Allen added 15 points, six rebounds and a team-high three steals.

Stanford inched out to a 15-11 lead over the first eight minutes.

Backed by six straight points from sophomore Dorian Pickens, the Cardinal promptly went on an 11-1 run. Freshman Josh Sharma scored the final four points in that stretch to give Stanford a 26-12 edge with 5:41 left in the half.

The teams traded baskets for the remainder of the half and Stanford led 37-24 at the break.

Oregon State briefly closed within single digits with the first four points in the second half, but sophomore Michael Humphrey answered with a dunk and layup on back-to-back possessions to extend the lead to 41-28 with 17:21 to go.

Stanford maintained that double-digit advantage for the next 10 minutes. Pickens scored eight in a row for the Cardinal for a 54-41 lead before the Beavers briefly closed to within seven, 58-51, with 6:51 to play.

However, the Allen duo kept the hosts at bay with 14 of Stanford's last 19 points, and the Beavers were never closer than six points the rest of the way.

Pickens finished with 14 points, five rebounds and a team-high four assists. Humphrey contributed eight points and eight boards as Stanford outrebounded the Beavers, 46-29.
