Stanford Surges Back

STANFORD, Calif. – A career-best night from Sandy Smith with three goals and an assist highlighted 14th-ranked Stanford’s dominant offensive showcase Tuesday night as they topped Saint Mary’s 20-1 in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation women’s lacrosse.

In only her second game for Stanford (1-1, 1-0 MPSF), Anna Salemo started off the scoring melee for the Cardinal just over a minute into the game dropping an unassisted goal on the Gaels that started off a 15 goal streak in the half. Nine different Cardinal claimed goals in the half as Stanford dominated the game, winning 14 of the 16 draw controls in the half while barely allowing SMC to enter its offensive zone with Stanford rolling into the half up 15-0.

The second half remained the same story as Stanford controlled all facets of the game, winning all seven draw controls. This time around Stanford scored five unanswered goals, all by five different Cardinal. The Gaels were able to scrap for a goal by the tail end of the game as Stanford cruised to a 20-1 final.

The Cardinal now sets its sights on hosting No. 16 Ohio State. The Buckeyes are set to travel west to take on Stanford Sunday, Feb. 21. Game time is set for noon at Laird Q. Cagan Stadium.
