Cardinal Dominates Buckeyes

STANFORD, Calif. – Another showcase of offensive prowess led No. 14 Stanford to its second win of the season with an 18-7 win over the 16th-ranked Buckeyes of Ohio State Sunday afternoon at Laird Q. Cagan Stadium. Anna Salemo led the way for Stanford with four goals and two assists.

The Cardinal (2-1) wasted no time after the opening whistle as a draw control won by Lucy Dikeou showed her celerity, taking only 11 seconds off the clock before scoring her first of three goals. Stanford went on a tear after, firing off six unanswered goals in the first eight minutes of play.

Ohio State (2-1) finally answered in the ninth minute of play with three straight goals of their own to make it 6-3. Stanford would not be silenced though, outshooting OSU 13-8 and winning 10 of the 14 draw controls in the half. In the first 30 minutes alone, Anna Salemo scored three times as Stanford headed into the half up 9-4.

The second half saw no let up on the throttle from the Cardinal, with Salemo setting up Kelly Myers four minutes into play before adding her fourth goal of the game 23 seconds after. Four Stanford goals later saw OSU add two of their own, but there would be no closing of the floodgate with the Cardinal piling on five more to close out the game with an 18-7 final.

The Cardinal will continue its home stand as it sets to host Harvard. Game time is set for noon on Saturday, Feb. 27 at Laird Q. Cagan Stadium.
