STANFORD, Calif. - No. 23 Stanford remained unbeaten at home with a 5-1 victory over No. 25 UCLA on Saturday afternoon at Taube Family Tennis Stadium.
Krista Hardebeck’s 6-4, 7-5 win at the No. 3 spot turned out to be the clincher after the Cardinal (7-3, 2-1 Pac-12) had quickly took command in singles against the Bruins (9-4, 2-1 Pac-12).
Stanford moved in front 2-0, booking a pair of matches on the back courts within minutes of each other. Kimberly Yee cruised to a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 6 before Melissa Lord prevailed 6-3, 6-3 at No. 5.
Caroline Doyle’s 6-4, 6-4 win at the No. 2 position then moved Stanford one step closer before Hardebeck secured the match.
With the match already decided and rain expected later this afternoon, the doubles competition was not played.
Meanwhile, Stanford's 11 a.m. match on Sunday against No. 43 USC will not be played. Instead, the Trojans will face California in Berkeley on Sunday after their match today was postponed.
Stanford and USC will make up their match at the Pac-12 Championships in Ojai, Calif., only if necessary to determine the conference title.
