STANFORD, Calif. – The third-ranked Stanford men’s volleyball team had its eight-match winning streak come to an end at the hands of No. 9 Pepperdine (22-25, 21-25, 25-20, 25-21, 16-14), Saturday, in Maples Pavilion.

The Cardinal (15-3, 13-3 MPSF), which won the first two sets, hit .326 for the match, but was out hit by its opponent for just the third time this season. Pepperdine (10-6, 9-6 MPSF) turned in a .341 attack percentage and tallied 13.0 blocks, 40 digs and four aces.

Redshirt junior Gabriel Vega led Stanford with 16 kills, seven digs and tied his career-high with five blocks. Senior middle blocker Conrad Kaminski recorded a career-high 15 kills on .542 hitting to go with eight blocks and an ace. Senior Madison Hayden finished with 15 kills and nine digs.

Senior setter James Shaw controlled the offense with 48 assists. He also tallied three kills, five digs and five blocks. Redshirt sophomore Kevin Rakestraw had seven kills on 14 errorless swings (.500) and three blocks, while sophomore libero Evan Enriques finished with a match-high 11 digs.

The Cardinal hit .400 or better in the two sets that it won, but was held to under .300 hitting in the final three sets. Pepperdine was led by Matt Tarantino’s match-high 21 kills on .459 hitting. Freshman David Wieczorek notched a double-double for the Waves with 20 kills and 10 digs. Freshman opposite Colby Harriman added 18 kills, three digs and three blocks.

Stanford will take a 12-day break for finals before taking the court again on Thursday, March 24 against USC. The match is slated for 7 p.m. on the Pac-12 Networks.
