STANFORD, Calif. - No. 20 Stanford dropped a 4-3 decision to No. 11 Pepperdine on Tuesday afternoon at Taube Family Tennis Stadium.
The teams elected to start the match with singles, and after Stanford and Pepperdine split with three wins apiece, the drama shifted to doubles.
The Waves (10-2, 0-0 WCC) clinched the match by winning the doubles point, thanks to victories at the top two spots of the lineup.
The Cardinal (7-4, 2-1 Pac-12), which was playing its first of three home matches over a five-day stretch, moved in front 3-2 following Krista Hardebeck’s 6-4, 7-6 (12) triumph on court three.
Pepperdine evened the match at 3-3 when Matea Cutura outlasted Caroline Lampl 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.
Stanford next hosts Colorado on Friday, March 25, at 1:30 p.m. as conference play continues.
