STANFORD, Calif. – Searching for its first win against the Los Angeles schools since 2010, the 36th-ranked Cardinal travels to take on No. 5 UCLA and No. 9 USC. Matches are set for 3 p.m. Friday and noon Saturday in Los Angeles, Calif.
The Cardinal is coming off its hottest winning streak of the season with five straight victories, including two Pac-12 wins over Arizona and No. 61 Utah. No. 30 Rice and No. 68 also fell victim to the Cardinal during the streak. Nolan Paige was red-hot on the week with two clinching points in Pac-12 play.
Last time out against the Bruins, the Cardinal came out to a hot start winning the doubles point before UCLA fired off three straight singles victories. The match wasn’t over as Stanford fought back with two singles wins at No. 3 and No. 6 to make it 3-3 before the Bruins were able to close it out on court five. The last time the Cardinal defeated the Bruins on UCLA’s home turf was 2010.
Against the Trojans the Cardinal won the doubles point again to take the lead, but the story was the same as USC took three consecutive wins to make it 3-1. Stanford’s Maciek Romanowicz took a win in the No. 5 spot, but it was all USC as they polished off the 5-2 win. Last time the Cardinal topped the Trojans in L.A. was 2009.
