COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Four freshmen fencers from Stanford earned conference titles during the weekend in the first round of the NCAA Western Regional Championships at the United States Air Force Academy.

Sean Strong won in men’s epee, Jeffrey Dalli in men’s sabre, Chantel Yang in women’s epee and Carly Weber-Levine in women’s sabre.

In addition, six Stanford student-athletes collected all-conference honors for their performances. They included Darren Mei (second place) and Andre Cornman (third place) in men’s foil, David Beam (third place) in men’s sabre, Christie Dawson (third place) in women’s foil, Belinda Mo (second place) in women’s epee, and Valerie Garcia (third place) in women’s sabre.

“Four championships in six events is quite an accomplishment,” said head coach Lisa Posthumus. “It says a lot about their dedication to the sport and signals a strong future for both programs.”

Other regionals will be contested this weekend. Next week, Stanford will learn which fencers receive invites to the National Collegiate Championships, March 24-27 at The Grosman Sports and Convocation Center in Waltham, Massachusetts. Brandeis University and Waltham will host.
