Softblog: Los Angeles Living

Sorry for the delay this week Stanford softball fans.

We had an extended stay in Los Angeles this weekend and had to catch a 6:20 a.m. flight back to campus Tuesday just in time to make our 9 a.m. classes. Safe to say naps were in the agenda for after class.

The team was excited to venture to sunny Southern California with hopes of a celebrity-sighting and soaking up the springtime sun.

Molly came prepared with her niffy sunglasses.

We were excited to discover our hotel was within walking distance of a coffee shop. It has become a pregame ritual for some.

Look at these happy campers.

The coaches surprised us and took us to brunch on Manhattan Beach and then let us have some free time to explore.

Kylie entertained the group with an educational lesson on the proper way to form a “mud ball.”

Vic was a fast learner and showed off her prized mud ball.

Bert had a close call with the ocean …

She lost her feet!

Vic tried to help …

I’ll spoil the surprise; Bert eventually found her feet again.

Ky was very upset after her last mud ball got destroyed.

Bessie tried to console her during this tough time.

Whit, Plaz, Frosty, and Schabey admired the incredible view while trying to fit in with the locals … too bad their Stanford gear gave them away.

And here is a typical group beach pic of all of us. Although they gave me crap for making them all take this photo, they ended up loving it and it’s now the background on many of their phones.

On a completely separate note, we had a really cool thing happen this weekend. Our little Molly made an amazing diving catch Monday night and was on SportsCenter’s Top-10 Plays coming in at number three. Not too shabby Molls.

Here is her in the airport at 4:30 a.m. the next day.

Another exciting event for this weekend was having a pregame meal at Kylie’s grandparents’ house Saturday afternoon! They live in L.A. and were gracious enough to host 16 hungry softball players. We ate amazing food, played endless hands of Pusoy, and got to spend some quality time with Kylie’s family. Thank you so much for hosting us!

Well I think that about wraps up the blog for this week. Catch us at home this weekend against the Arizona Wildcats. You might even get to see Bessie do the worm … you never know.

I’ll see you at the field!
