FRESNO, Calif. – A streak of 13 consecutive Stanford goals, four from Elizabeth Cusick, paved the way to an 18-6 win for the 9th-ranked Cardinal as it pushed its win streak to four, topping MPSF foe Fresno State Friday afternoon.
The first half saw the Cardinal’s (11-2, 6-0 MPSF) public enemy No. 1, Kelsey Murray strike first in less than two minutes of play, which Elizabeth Cusick followed with her own less than 25 seconds later to make it 2-0. Fresno State (4-9, 1-6 MPSF) fired back with a goal in the fourth minute of play before Stanford unleashed a barrage of offense on the Bulldogs.
The Cardinal went on an 11 goal tear after that with Mackenzie Tesei, Anna Salemo, Kelly Myers and Elizabeth Cusick all dropping two in for Stanford as it rolled into the half up 13-1.
The party didn’t stop though, as out of the gate Stanford added two more goals with Kelsey Murray and Monika Sivilli going back-to-back to make it 15-1. Fresno scrapped back with two of their own, but Julia Massaro and Cusick came right back at them before Paige Southmayd put the nightcap on the game with less than 10 minutes remaining as Stanford rolled to an 18-6 win.
The Cardinal returns home on Sunday as it sets to host UC Davis in its final home game of the regular season. Game time is set for noon at Laird Q. Cagan Stadium and will honor the seniors of the 2016 season prior to the start of the game.
