Cardinal Tops UC Davis

STANFORD, Calif. – Kelsey Murray capped off her week of 12 goals and six assists by netting four and adding an assist Sunday afternoon as the ninth-ranked Cardinal topped UC Davis 13-6 at Laird Q. Cagan Stadium.

The Cardinal (12-2, 7-0 MPSF) started off hot in its traditional fashion with a goal less than a minute into the game as Kelsey Murray put away her first of the day off a free position shot. Kelly Myers added another one for the Cardinal to make it 2-0 nearly six minutes into the half.

The Aggies (5-6, 3-3 MPSF) rallied back on Stanford with three straight goals on the Cardinal to take a 3-2 lead that they held onto for three minutes before Alex Poplawski knotted it up off a free position shot. Stanford went on to score three more times in the half with another Aggie goal added in to head into the break with a 6-4 lead.

The Cardinal offense composed itself in the second half as it went on a three goal run to bolster its lead 9-4. UCD was able to scrap two goals in the half, but six Stanford goals was too much for the Aggies to contain as Stanford kept it’s MPSF streak alive with the 13-6 win.

The Cardinal hit the road in MPSF action on Friday with a huge game looming against the currently undefeated and sixth-ranked USC Women of Troy. Game time is set for 4:30 p.m. PT in Los Angeles at the LA Memorial Coliseum and will be aired live on Pac-12 Networks.
