Card Cruises Past SDSU

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Anna Salemo put together a highlight reel of four goals and two assists Sunday afternoon as No. 9 Stanford took a 16-10 win over MPSF foe San Diego State to close out its 2016 regular season.

The Cardinal (13-3, 8-1 MPSF) came out of the starting gates on a mission, blasting 24 shots on the Aztecs in the half to crank 10 goals past SDSU (4-11, 3-6 MPSF). Kelly Myers struck first less than two minutes into the game, but SDSU’s Kristen Hickey scored two goals in the next five minutes to take a 2-1 lead.

The Cardinal made quick work of the deficit with a goal by Maggie Nick 23 seconds later before going on a seven goal streak with all seven being scored by a different Cardinal. SDSU and Stanford traded goals back and forth for the last seven minutes of play to close out the half with the Cardinal up 10-4.

Stanford stayed true to form in the second half, outdrawing and outshooting the Aztecs as Mackenzie Tesei kept the party going with a goal in just under two minutes.

SDSU went on a three goal streak that Anna Salemo broke up with her second goal of the day before putting on a clinic with two more goals. Allie DaCar was solid in the cage for Stanford as well, saving six en route to the Cardinal’s 16-10 win.

Next up, Stanford will set to host the MPSF Championship Tournament this week. Games are set to start on Thursday at 4 and 7 p.m. PT at Laird Q. Cagan Stadium.
