Valenzuela Shares Honor

RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. – Stanford bound Albane Valenzuela of Switzerland tied for low amateur on Sunday in ANA Inspiration at Mission Hills Country Club, the first LPGA major championship of 2016.

The 18-year-old Valenzuela, who will compete for the Stanford women’s golf team this fall, shot rounds of 73-73-71-76 to finish at 5-over par 293. She shared the honor with current U.S. Women’s Amateur champion Hannah O’Sullivan, the duo tying for 65th.

They were the only amateurs to make the cut in the tournament, won by Lydia Ko.

Andrea Lee of Hermosa Beach, California, who will also play for the Cardinal in the fall, also qualified for the elite event for the second consecutive year. She posted rounds of 76-74, but missed the cut.

"Great accomplishment by both," said Anne Walker, the Margot and Mitch Milias Director of Women's Golf. "Look forward to them joining the team in the fall."
