Another Top Ten

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Stanford finished sixth at the Laserperformance Team Race National Championship at San Diego Yacht Club on Monday.

“We are really happy with how the team sailed at this event,” said assistant coach Clinton Hayes, who leads the team racing group. “We were right there in every race against all the top teams but just couldn’t quite convert enough wins to make it on the podium.”

The Cardinal made it back to back top-ten finishes at the ICSA National Championships after finishing ninth in the women’s championship Friday.

Stanford finished 13-9 overall, going 10-5 in the opening round and 3-4 in the semifinals. The top four teams advanced to the final four.

Seniors Axel Sly and Antoine Screve and sophomore Will La Dow skippered all 22 races for the Cardinal with junior J.P. Cannistraro, senior Sammy Steele and freshman Kathryn Booker serving as crews.

No. 6 Stanford defeated No. 5 Saint Mary’s College of Maryland, No. 8 Dartmouth, No. 4 Boston College and No. 7 Brown twice during the competition.

“The scores really don’t reflect how well the team actually sailed and we are really looking forward to the next event on Tuesday,” added Hayes.

The team finishes 6th at Team Racing Nationals! Looking forward to starting fleet racing semis tomorrow! Go Cardinal
