SEATTLE – On a spectacular Saturday morning during "Opening Day" (representing the official first day of boating season) in Seattle, No. 15 Stanford faced No. 3 Washington and the Russian National Team as part of the Windermere Cup festivities.

The Cardinal varsity eight and second varsity eight took home the silver, while the third varsity eight placed fourth.

"The varsity and second varsity were focused and poised, rowing a great race," Stanford head men’s rowing coach Craig Amerkhanian said. “This was a great regatta to get us set for the Pac-12 Championships next weekend. Opening Day in Seattle is a always a great event that attracts thousdands and we were glad to be a part of this year's Windermere Cup." 

Stanford's varsity eight took the early lead at the 500 meter mark of the Windermere Cup. Washington surged ahead, pushing its bow ahead to take the lead at 1,000 meters. The Huskies crossed the finish line at 5:41.627 for the open water win. Stanford placed second with a time of 5:48.131, ahead of the Russian National Team (5:58.385).

In the Erickson Cascade Cup, Stanford's second varsity placed second to Washington. The Huskies captured the race with a time of 5:53.428, while the Cardinal finished second with a time of 6:02.221, ahead of third-place Oregon State (6:11.484). 

The Cardinal's third varsity eight finished fourth in its race, completing the course in 6:31.798. A pair of Washington entries took the top two spots (5:51.252 and 5:58.838), and Oregon State finished second with a time of 6:14.599.

Pac-12 Network televised the Windermere Cup with the broadcast airing next Saturday (May 14) at 11 a.m. PT. 

Stanford will next compete in the Pac-12 Championship next Sunday, May 15, at Lake Natoma in Gold River, Calif.
