Crushing it in the Classroom

STANFORD, Calif. - Twelve members of the Stanford baseball team earned Academic All-Pac-12 honors on Monday as announced by the conference office. The dozen honorees ranked tops in the Pac-12, as did Stanford's three first-team selections. 

Tommy Edman (computer science), Andrew Summerville (management science and engineering) and Matt Winaker were first-team selections, and Tyler Thorne (science) was named to the second team. 

Quinn Brodey, Chris Castellanos (public policy), Mikey Diekroeger, Alex Dunlap (science, technology and society), John Hochstatter (economics), Colton Hock (science, technology and society), Jack Klein (communication) and Chris Viall (science, technology and society) garnered honorable mention accolades. 

This marks the second Academic All-Pac-12 first-team honor for Edman. The San Diego, Calif., native also earned Academic All-America accolades this year from CoSIDA.

To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average, completed at least one full academic year and be either a starter or significant contributor, playing in at least 50 percent of the team’s games.
