LANARKA, Cyprus – Incoming freshman Kathryn Plummer won a bronze medal at the FIVB Under-19 Beach World Championships this past weekend.

Plummer teamed with Milica Mirkovic to win the consolation match in straight sets, 21-10, 21-15, over Brazilians Vitoria De Souza Rodrigues and Ana Carolina de Almeida Costa.

Plummer and Mirkovic started strongly with a 2-1 record in pool play, before defeating No. 9 Austria 21-12, 20-10 in the round of 16. Plummer and Mirkovic pulled off another upset, beating No. 15 Latvia 24-22, 21-19 in the quarterfinals.

The Brazilian team of Eduarda Lisboa and Victoria Tosta ended the Americans' run in the semifinals, 21-16, 19-21, 15-10.

In 2014, Plummer was the FIVB U-17 Beach World Championship's Most Outstanding Player on her way to a gold medal. A year later, she became the only player in history to win a FIVB World Championship medal in both indoor and beach by helping the United States capture silver at the U-18 World Championships. More recently, she was named AAU Beach Player of the Year.
