RIO de JANEIRO -- Incoming freshman Katie Ledecky and former Stanford standout Maya DiRado '14 each earned their second medal of the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Brazil on Tuesday night.
Ledecky earned a gold medal in the 200-meter freestyle, and DiRado captured the bronze in the 200-meter individual medley.
Ledecky's time of 1:53.73 bested Swedish rival Sarah Sjostrom (1:54.08). It marked her second gold medal of the Rio Games as she won the 400-meter freestyle on Sunday. She will try to become just the second female in Olympic history to win the 200, 400 and 800 freestyle in the same Games (Debbie Meyer, 1968). The prelims for the 800-meter freestyle are Thursday morning beginning at 9:30 a.m. (PT).
