STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford middle blocker Audriana Fitzmorris has been selected the Pac-12 Defensive Player and Freshman of the Week, the conference announced today.
The Overland Park, Kansas native averaged 2.11 blocks, 3.33 points and 2.11 kills per set in her collegiate debuts against San Diego and then-No. 3 Minnesota last week.
In the season opener, Fitzmorris led all players with 11 blocks against the Toreros, helping the Cardinal to a season-high 20.0 blocks as a team. Versus the third-ranked Golden Gophers, she tied for the team-high in blocks (8) and kills (13), hitting .357.
Stanford now has 97 total player of the week honors. It also marks the 16th freshman of the week accolade for the Cardinal, which is the most all-time in the conference.
The Cardinal, which moved up to No. 9 in the AVCA top 25 this week, travels to Boulder, Colorado to face No. 17 Illinois on Saturday, Sept. 3 and No. 13 Penn State on Sunday, Sept. 4.
