Danielson Delivers

NEW HAVEN, Conn – One thing that tends to go under the radar is the note that the Cardinal field hockey team is the oldest women's varsity sport at Stanford University. Another is the fact that Tara Danielson has shown how she and her coaching staff are some of the most successful and prolific in the sport with their 100th win in program history Sunday afternoon with a 3-1 win over Yale.

The Bulldogs came out of the gate hard, putting a goal away less than three minutes into the game, though Fran Tew made quick work of that lead with her second goal of the season to knot it at 1-1 in the 13th minute. Kelsey Bing saved three shots in the half to keep Stanford in it as the score remained knotted 1-1 at the half.

The second half was all Stanford, as it outshot the Bulldogs 14-5 in the half with a penalty corner setting up Sarah Helgeson for her third goal of the year to make it 2-1 in the 49th minute.

"We made some tactical adjustments midgame and the team showed a resiliency to plan to the game plan," stated head coach Tara Danielson, "I'm pleased with the improvements made the team this week and know that we're ready for conference play next week".

The Cardinal put it out of reach in the 67th minute by converting another penalty corner as Sarah Helgeson sent in a shot that Katie Keyser set up Caroline Beaudoin for a shot past the Bulldog defense for the 3-1 final.

The Cardinal remains on the road next week as it sets to open conference play next Friday at UC Davis in a 3 p.m. tilt in Davis, Calif.
