BERKELEY, Calif. - Battling a long weekend of rain delays, the Cardinal duo of Sameer Kumar and Yale Goldberg fought its way into the finals of the doubles main draw where the pair put together a comeback to defeat Oregon's Jayson Amos and Simon Stevens.
The Duck duo came out fierce in the first set to blank the Cardinal 6-0 before Kumar and Goldberg put up a herculean effort to take the second set 7-6 (2) before winning it in the tiebreak 1-0 (10). The championship marks the Cardinal's second consecutive title at the USTA/ITA Northwest Regional after David Wilczynski claimed the singles title in 2015.
The pair qualifies for the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, New York starting on Nov. 4.
