STANFORD, Calif. – Four Stanford sailors punched their tickets to the Intercollegiate Sailing Association Singlehanded National Championships this past weekend at the Pacific Coast Collegiate Sailing Conference Singlehanded Championships.

Sophomore William Marshall took the top spot on the men's side, finishing with an impressive 17-point total from 10 races. Marshall won the first four races and never looked back, winning six and finishing outside of the top-two only once.

Junior Luke Muller, the two-time defending PCCSC singlehanded champion, finished second with 30 points, including just one finish outside the top five. Freshman Nestor Cano narrowly missed out on nationals in fifth place, which included a win in the final race.

Junior Haley Fox finished second in the women's half of the field with 18 points. In eight races, Fox had six top-two finishes, while sophomore Olivia Gugliemini was not far behind in third place with 24 points. Gugliemini finished outside of the top three only twice.

Congrats to William, Luke, Haley and Olivia for qualifying for singlehanded nationals!

The Cardinal quartet will compete at the Intercollegiate Sailing Association Singlehanded National Championships Nov. 4-6 in Galveston, Texas. Last season, Muller finished sixth while Fox was ninth and Gugliemini took 14th.

Stanford was also represented at the Mrs. Hurst Bowl in Hanover, New Hampshire, and the Sherman Hoyt Trophy in Providence, Rhode Island.

The Cardinal finished 11th in the 17-team field at the Mrs. Hurst Bowl. Junior skipper Julia Lambert and freshman crew Madeline Bubb finished 16th in the A-division while junior Elena VandenBerg and senior Quinn Vangelos were ninth in the B-division.

I think they should stick to sailing ???? Good weekend at Dartmouth for the women who sailed in frigid weather and finished 11th overall.
