Bauer Earns Academic Honor

CoSIDA Academic All-District Teams Opens in a new window

STANFORD, Calif. – Maddie Bauer was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 8 Team, as announced Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Bauer carries a 3.56 GPA as an international relations major. Her studies specialize in international security, and social development and human well-being.

A four-year starter, Bauer anchors Stanford's backline and has helped lead the Cardinal to a 14-1-1 record. The Cardinal holds a 68-11-7 record during her career (.831).

Bauer was named a Senior CLASS Award top-30 finalist earlier this year, recognizing seniors who excel in the classroom, competition, character and community. She was a 2015 NSCAA Scholar All-American, the only representative from the Pac-12. She is also a two-time Pac-12 All-Academic selection.

"Maddie is an incredible leader and has a strong work ethic," said head coach Paul Ratcliffe. "She leads by example and is highly respected by all of her teammates."

Bauer is a two-time NSCAA All-Pacific Region first team selection (2013, 2015) and a three-time All-Pac-12 second team pick.

She leads a Stanford defense that has not given up more than two goals in all but one game during her career. She helped mentor fellow center back, Alana Cook, during her freshman year to the 2015 Pac-12 Freshman of the Year award.

Bauer is an aggressive and physical defender who has great field awareness and often starts Stanford's attack with her strong distribution skills.

During the summer before her senior year, Bauer worked as a product intern at a small startup in Palo Alto that creates personalized sports highlights and updates. She is serving as a teaching assistant for a public speaking class at Stanford during her senior year.
