ANNIKA Invite

STANFORD, Calif. – The No. 1-ranked Stanford women's golf team has been invited to compete in the prestigious 2017 ANNIKA Intercollegiate Presented by 3M, Sept. 30 through Oct. 3 at Olympic Hills Golf Club in Eden Prairie, Minnesota.

Co-founded by the ANNIKA Foundation, LPGA Hall of Famer Annika Sorenstam's charitable organization, and Golfweek, the 12-team, 54-hole tournament features the leading Division I women's programs in the country and signals the start of the new season.

Also participating are Florida State (3), USC (4), UCLA (5), Georgia (6), Arkansas (10) and Minnesota (host team). The remainder of the field will be announced in May following the NCAA Championships.

"We are excited to be invited," said Anne Walker, the Margot and Mitch Milias Director of Women's Golf. "The field is always one of the best in college golf and the event is a first class experience. It's an honor for our program to be included in this small, first round of invites."

The Cardinal previously played in 2014 and 2015.

A gala dinner will be held to honor the winner of the 2017 ANNIKA Award, which annually recognizes the most outstanding player in women's Division I golf.

One of the greatest players in LPGA Tour history, Sorenstam won 10 major championships and was the first woman to shoot 59 in a professional tournament.

Stanford had a strong fall season, posting two seconds and two thirds in four starts. The team resumes competition Feb. 11-12 in the Peg Barnard Invitational at Stanford Golf Course.
