Stanford, Calif. - The 2004 National Champion Stanford women's volleyball team has accepted an invitation to visit the White House as part of a four-team championship reception with President George W. Bush on Friday, May 13, 2005.

It's a great honor for the people in our volleyball program to represent our university," said head women's volleyball coach John Dunning. "We are very excited about this opportunity to tour the White House and meet the president."

The Cardinal women's volleyball team is one of four intercollegiate national championship teams invited to travel to Washington, D.C. and take part in the recognition ceremony.

The Cal State Fullerton baseball team, the University of Indiana men's soccer team and the Notre Dame women's soccer team were also invited to attend, according to the White House.

Because of the trip to the White House this week, the free Super Spikers Kids Clinic, scheduled for Saturday, May 14, has been cancelled.

The Stanford women's volleyball team (30-6 overall, 15-3 Pac-10) won its record sixth national championship on December 18 in Long Beach, Calif., as the Cardinal swept Minnesota, 3-0. Senior outside hitter Ogonna Nnamani was tabbed AVCA Co-Player of the Year and the Honda Award winner for volleyball.
