STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford sophomore driver Madison Berggren was named MPSF/Kap7 Player of the Week when the conference announced its weekly honors on Tuesday afternoon.
Â
Berggren led the Cardinal with six goals in two games at the LouStrong Memorial and No. 1 Stanford began its season with a 17-1 win over No. 14 San Jose State and a 21-2 victory against No. 17 UC Davis. She scored twice in the opener against the Spartans and then poured in a career-high four later in the morning against the Aggies. Her four-goal outburst helped Stanford to its highest offensive output since March 20, 2015 against Harvard (23).
Â
It's the first weekly award of Berggren's career. As a freshman in 2016 she was named to the MPSF All-Newcomer team.
Â
Stanford is off until it hosts Long Beach State on Sunday, Jan. 29 at 1 p.m.
