Imrie Rejoins Card

STANFORD, Calif. – Kathryn Imrie, an accomplished teacher and former standout amateur and professional player, has rejoined the Stanford women's golf team as a volunteer assistant coach, it was announced Tuesday.

"Kathryn has more than 20 years of playing experience on the LPGA and Ladies European Tour," said Anne Walker, the Margot and Mitch Milias Director of Women's Golf.  "She won on the LPGA Tour and played and coached in the Solheim Cup. Her familiarity with world-class golf, particularly women's golf, makes her a huge asset to our program."

Imrie grew up on the east coast of Scotland and is a Class A LPGA certified instructor. A talented junior player, she honed her game on links courses like Carnoustie and St. Andrews. At one time, Imrie held five course records in St. Andrews.

A 1989 graduate of the University of Arizona, she returned to Scotland in 1991 and competed for Great Britain and Ireland in the Curtis Cup Match at Canoe Brook Country Club in New Jersey. Imrie turned pro shortly after and earned her LPGA Tour card in 1993.

In 1995, she became the first Scot to win on the LPGA, capturing the 1995 Jamie Farr Toledo Classic. Imrie set a circuit record by carding 11 birdies during a round at Rail Golf Club in Illinois, shooting 62 to equal the LPGA scoring mark.

Imrie represented Europe in the 1994 and 1996 Solheim Cup, where her playing partners included Annika Sorenstam and Liselotte Neumann.

After retiring from competitive golf, Imrie achieved Master Instructor status at the Jim McLean Golf School in La Quinta, California. She was an assistant golf coach at Stanford for three years, then became an assistant pro at the course. Imrie currently teaches at Sharon Heights Golf and Country Club in Menlo Park, California.

"She will be able to mentor, coach and advise our players who have aspirations and goals well beyond college golf," Walker said. "At the same time, Kathryn will provide instruction as needed. Her knowledge of the golf swing and philosophy behind high performance golf goes hand in hand with our program and we are excited to learn from her in the coming months."
