STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford gymnast Akash Modi was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Gymnast of the Week, as announced by the conference Tuesday.
At the 25th annual Stanford Open, Modi led the No. 2 Cardinal to a second-straight sweep in both individual and team events against No. 8 California and No. 19 Washington.
Modi won titles on floor (2017 NCAA-high 15.000), pommel horse (14.800), parallel bars (14.900), and all-around (88.150), along with second-place outcomes on still rings (14.750), vault (14.650), and high bar (14.050; tie with Robert Neff).
This is Modi's 11th career MPSF weekly award.
Modi has earned seven individual event victories against NCAA teams this season: all-around (2), parallel bars (2), pommel horse (2) and floor (1).
Stanford and Modi will look to keep their momentum going on Saturday, Feb. 4 where the Cardinal will travel to MPSF opponent Air Force. Meet time is set for 12 p.m. PT.
