TEMPE, Ariz. – Stanford scored a season-high 49.125 on beam in the final rotation to secure a 195.775-195.200 victory at Arizona State on Saturday.
The Cardinal (6-6, 3-2 Pac-12) jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, outscoring the Sun Devils (2-7, 0-4 Pac-12) in three of four events. Stanford has won 28 consecutive meets against Arizona State.
Five gymnasts combined for eight top-three finishes and a Stanford gymnast either won or tied for the individual event victory in three events.
Danielle McNair, Nicolette McNair and Ashley Tai combined for the win on vault with scores of 9.825. Elizabeth Price returned to the bars lineup after missing last week's meet due to injury and won the event with a 9.950.
Rachel Daum, Danielle McNair and Nicolette McNair scored 9.850 to tie for the victory on beam.
Stanford got off to a quality start on bars with five-of-six gymnasts hitting their routines for 9.750 or higher. Price led the Cardinal with a 9.950 to finish first in the event. She has won the individual title in the event in all five meets she has competed in this season.
Price has scored 9.900 or higher in 51-of-81 (63 percent) performances during her collegiate career.
The Cardinal continued its momentum with a consistent performance on vault. All six gymnasts hit their vaults for scores of 9.725 or higher to finish with a team total of 48.950. Tai, Danielle McNair and Nicolette McNair tied for the individual event victory with scores of 9.825.
Stanford ran into a bit of adversity on floor when its first gymnast missed their routine. However, the Cardinal rallied to hit each of its next five performances to cover for the missed routine and score 48.625.
Stanford finished strong on beam with a season-high 49.125. Daum, Danielle McNair and Nicolette McNair led the way with scores of 9.850.
Daum and Danielle McNair's was particularly impressive because it came after a Stanford gymnast missed her routine in the fourth position and they needed to hit their routines to eliminate the low score. The duo delivered and helped Stanford secure the road victory.
The Cardinal returns home next week for its final regular season home competition against Oregon State. Stanford's senior class will be recognized throughout the meet and the competition will be televised on the Pac-12 Networks.
