HONOLULU – For the second straight day, the eighth-ranked Stanford men's volleyball team fell at No. 4 Hawai'i, 25-13, 25-19, 25-20, Saturday at the Stan Sheriff Center.
Hawai'i (20-2, 10-2 MPSF) overpowered Stanford (11-9, 6-7 MPSF) offensively, out hitting the Cardinal .370 to .149. The Rainbow Warriors tallied 13.0 blocks and forced the Cardinal into 19 hitting errors.
Stanford was led by opposite Clay Jones who finished with 10 kills, two digs and a block. Redshirt senior Gabriel Vega and redshirt junior Kevin Rakestraw each recorded seven kills, while freshman Eric Beatty notched five kills and five digs.
Freshman setter Paul Bischoff directed the offense with 28 assists, while collecting five digs and three blocks. Junior libero Evan Enriques had a match-high seven digs.
Hawai'i was led by Stijn van Tilburg and Kupono Fey, who combined for 22 of the team's 42 kills. The Rainbow Warriors won their 19th straight match at home and 14th consecutive match at home.
Stanford returns to The Farm next weekend to host No. 9 Pepperdine on Saturday, March 18 at 5 p.m. in Burnham Pavilion.
