Academic Honors Continue

STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford was awarded 12 individual honors as part of the 2016 Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad, as announced by the organization Wednesday.

The Cardinal was well-represented with 12 honorees – the most since it placed 18 on the list in 2012 – including Caroline Beaudoin, Maddy Belin, Kelsey Bing, Marissa Cicione, Phoebe Crosthwaite, Casey Deeds, Lucy Dikeou, Nina Randolph, Kennedy Schumacher, Millie Stefanowicz, Fran Tew and Jessica Welch.

Tew completes her collegiate career as a four-time recipient of the honor.

To be recognized as an Academic Squad member, a student-athlete must achieve a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.30 through the first semester of the 2015-16 academic year.

In 2016, the Cardinal claimed its first America East Conference Championship in only its second year competing in the conference. Stanford also advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the 15th time in program history, and the sixth time in seven years under Tara Danielson.

The future remains bright for Stanford, which expects to return 16 letterwinners, including freshman All-American Kelsey Bing as well as an incredible incoming class.
