BERKELEY, Calif. - Stanford was unable to capitalize on a strong outing in the circle from Carolyn Lee, dropping its Pac-12 opener 1-0 to California on Saturday afternoon.

Playing its first game in two weeks, Stanford (16-11, 0-1 Pac-12) was looking to build off its recent homestand, where the Cardinal produced four wins in six games.

However, the Cardinal was able to scratch out only two hits, a pair of singles from Teaghan Cowles and Whitney Burks.

Lee allowed two hits and struck out four, allowing Stanford to stay within striking distance in a relatively clean game that lasted one hour and 22 minutes.

California (18-8, 1-3 Pac-12) pushed across its lone run in the fourth inning, when Jazmyn Jackson's RBI single plated Kylie Reed.

Zoe Conley handled the rest for the Golden Bears, allowing just the two baserunners while striking out four for her fifth shutout of the season.

Stanford and California resume their series on Sunday at noon PT and Monday at 3 p.m. PT. Both games will be televised on Pac-12 Networks.
