Pac-12 Academic Standouts

STANFORD, Calif. - Fourteen Cardinal were named to the Pac-12 All-Academic teams on Wednesday as announced by the conference office.

Junior mechanical engineering major Lindsey Engel earned first-team honors, while sophomores Ella Eastin and Kim Williams earned second-team selections.

Nicole Stafford, Simone Manuel, Heidi Poppe, Janet Hu, Bridget Boushka, Tara Halsted, Lia Neal, Alexandra Meyers, Leah Stevens, Kassidy Cook and Ally Howe all earned honorable mention status.

Engel made the first team for the second straight year with a team-best GPA of 3.82, while Stanford's four seniors -- Stafford, Neal, Boushka and Halsted earned All-Academic honors all three years they were eligible. It also marked the second consecutive Pac-12 academic recognition for Poppe, Meyers and Hu.

To be eligible for selection to the academic teams, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average afer one full year in school and participate in half of their team's scheduled regular season events.

In the pool this year, Stanford won its first national championship since 1998 and 10th overall, most in the nation. The Cardinal had 13 different All-Americans combine for 47 All-America honors, seven individual national championships and three relay titles during the four-day NCAA championship meet. Stanford also finished unbeaten in the regular season (8-0, 7-0 Pac-12) for the second straight year, and won its first Pac-12 Conference crown since 2013. On Tuesday, Manuel was named Pac-12 Swimmer of the Year.
