TUCSON, Ariz. – Stanford's No. 1 pair of Kathryn Plummer and Jenna Gray advanced to the second round of the Pac-12 Conference Pairs Championship on Friday with a 21-16, 21-14 win at Bear Down Beach.
Plummer and Gray (12-12 overall) took control of the match in the early stages and never looked back. The duo raced out to a 13-7 lead in the opening frame over Arizona's No. 2 pair of Olivia Hallaran and Olivia MacDonald, eventually taking the opening set, 21-16.
Stanford's top pair picked up where they left off in the second set, taking the lead and not relinquishing it. They eventually won the second set by a score of 21-14, making the final score 21-16, 21-14.

Stanford's No. 2 pair of Ivana Vanjak and Payton Chang were also entered in the pairs bracket, falling in the first round by a score of 21-11, 21-16 to Washington's No. 1 pair of Tia Scambray and Crissy Jones. The duo dropped the opening set by a score of 21-11, but fought back early in the second set to take a 10-8 lead. Washington came back, eventually defeating the Cardinal pair by a score of 21-11, 21-16.
The Pac-12 Pairs Championship continues tomorrow at 9 a.m. PT. Plummer and Gray will face either Kamila Tan and Madi Yoemans of UCLA, or Bryce Bark and Olivia Rodberg of Cal.
Yesterday, Stanford's team season ended with a 3-2 loss against Arizona. The Cardinal started the day with a 5-0 defeat to Arizona State before advancing and defeating Utah by a score of 5-0, staying alive to face the host Wildcats.
