STANFORD, Calif. – Senior goalkeeper Gabby Stone was named MPSF/Kap7 Player of the Week when the conference announced its weekly honors on Tuesday afternoon.
Stone tied a career high with 15 saves and No. 2 Stanford held No. 5 Cal to its lowest offensive output of the season in the Cardinal's 8-2 Big Splash victory in Berkeley on Sunday. The two goals for the Golden Bears were the fewest Stanford has allowed to a top-5 opponent since it beat No. 4 UCLA 8-1 on April 6, 2013.
Stone made big save after big save at Cal, including stopping a one-on-none for the Golden Bears late in the first half and quickly pushing ahead to Makenzie Fischer in transition for Stanford's fifth goal of the game. Her saves snuffed out a number of Cal's 6-on-5 chances and the Golden Bears went just 1-for-7 on the power play.
Stone's 15 saves tied her career high from March 29, 2015 against UC Davis and pushed her career total to 506, the fourth player in program history to surpass 500.
It's Stone's third career MPSF weekly honor.
Stanford is at No. 1 USC on Saturday, April 8 for a game televised on Pac-12 Networks beginning at 5 p.m.
