BOULDER, Colo. – Allie DaCar tied a career-best with 14 saves, but the effort fell short as Stanford fell 13-8 to No. 6 Colorado in MPSF action Friday afternoon at Kittredge Field. The loss to CU is the Cardinal's first in program history.
The Cardinal (7-4, 2-1 MPSF) opened the tilt with Daniella McMahon scoring her fifth goal of the year 46 seconds in, but the Buffs (12-1, 4-0 MPSF) came back to score six unanswered goals in the following 10 minutes to take the lead permanently.
Stanford battled back with three of its own, but headed into the half down 6-4 after being outshot 19-9. CU put 15 of its 19 shots on frame, forcing DaCar to amass nine of her 14 saves on the day.
Anna Salemo added her second goal to open the half and cut Colorado's lead to one, but that was the closest the Cardinal would get as CU scored four more to put the lead out of reach.
The Buffs dominated the game, holding Stanford to its lowest shot tally on the year and putting up the highest total the Cardinal has seen all season with 33 – 27 on goal.
Stanford returns home this week as it sets to host MPSF opponents Fresno State and Oregon. The Cardinal will face the Bulldogs on Tuesday night and the Ducks Friday, both at 6 p.m. PT at Stanford Stadium.
