STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford grew stronger this week when Sam Hiatt committed to the Cardinal for the fall of 2017 after transferring from Boston College.
The sophomore defender brings a wealth of Division I and U.S. youth national team experience and will be eligible to play immediately upon her arrival.
"Sam will be an outstanding addition to Stanford," said Cardinal head coach Paul Ratcliffe. "She is an experienced defender with strong leadership skills. I believe Sam has the ability to make an immediate impact on our team."
She joins a large incoming freshman class of eight players heading to The Farm this fall that includes, Belle Briede, Madison Haley, Jojo Harber, Civana Kuhlmann, Catarina Macario, Kiara Pickett, Brooke Redington and Sophia Serafin.
Hiatt started all 19 games last season at centerback for the Eagles and led the team in overall minutes played.
Hiatt is the second women's soccer transfer student-athlete in program history after Taylor Uhl joined the Cardinal from Minnesota in 2013.
She will add depth to Stanford's backline that graduated center defender and All-American, Maddie Bauer, who was selected sixth overall in the 2017 National Women's Soccer League draft by the Seattle Reign.
Hiatt joins a Stanford team that is coming off its second consecutive Pac-12 title, earned the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament and advanced past the first round of the tournament for the 11th straight season during a successful 2016 campaign.
