STANFORD, Calif. – Three talented newcomers will join the Stanford synchronized swimming team this fall, head coach Sara Lowe announced Thursday. They are Caitlin Klauer from Andover, Massachusetts, Jacklyn Luu from Milpitas, California, and Sophia Susac from Sacramento, California.
"They are an excellent group of young athletes who I know will work hard to continue the high program standard of athletics and academics at Stanford," said Lowe.
Klauer is a senior at Central Catholic High School and is affiliated with Optima Synchro. She has been competing on the U.S. Junior National Team for four years.
In 2016, Klauer finished third in duet, fourth in combo free and fifth in solo at the U.S. National Championships in Arizona, and placed ninth in team at the FINA World Junior Championships in Russia. In 2015, she claimed first in combo and fourth in figures at the U.S. Junior National Championships; first in figures, second in solo and third in duet and combo at the U.S. (Junior) Open; and first in figures, second in solo and second in duet at the Junior UANA Pan American Championships.
Luu attends Valley Christian High School. She has competed for the Santa Clara Aquamaids for seven years and the U.S. Junior National Team for four.
In 2016, she finished first in duet, combo and team in the U.S. National Championships, and ninth in team and 11th in duet at the FINA World Junior Championships. In 2015, Luu placed first in solo, duet, team and combo at the Junior China Open; and first in solo, duet and figures, and second in team at the U.S. Junior National Championships.
Susac is a senior at St. Francis Catholic High School and competes for the Sacramento Synchronized Swim Team. She won golds in duet and team, and bronze in figures and solo at the 2016 Junior Olympic Championships in Long Island, New York.
Stanford finished second in the Collegiate National Championships in March, and won the program's eighth national title in 2016.
