Kosty to Lead WUG Team

WUG Roster Opens in a new window

STANFORD, Calif. - Head Stanford men's volleyball coach John Kosty will guide the United States at the World University Games, Aug. 20-29, in Taipei, Taiwan.

Joining Kosty from the Cardinal program are redshirt senior middle blocker Kevin Rakestraw, senior libero Evan Enriques, junior outside hitter Jordan Ewert, sophomore setter Paul Bischoff and athletic trainer Shannon Murphy.

Rakestraw and Enriques were both tabbed AVCA All-America honorable mention in 2017, while Bischoff earned a spot on the MPSF All-Freshman Team. Ewert was an honorable mention All-MPSF pick as a sophomore despite missing nine of the final 10 matches for the Cardinal. Kosty completed his 11th season at the helm of the Cardinal program in 2017 and his 27th overall on staff.

The U.S. will compete in Pool A at the World University Games along with Brazil, France, Japan and Chinese Taipei. Matches will be played at the National Taiwan University Sports Center. The arena is owned by the National Taiwan University, the most well known university in all of Taiwan and seats nearly 5,000 spectators.

In other offseason news, incoming freshmen Jaylen Jasper and Kyler Presho-Hartung will be competing for the U.S. Youth National Team at the FIVB U19 World Championships in Bahrain, Aug. 18-27. Team USA will be in Pool A along with Bahrain, Puerto Rico, Egypt and Tunisia. The U.S. team finished seventh at the last U19 World Championship in 2015, the team's best finish at Worlds.
