TAIPEI, Taiwan – The United States Women's National Team won gold at the 2017 World University Games in Taipei behind the play of eight past, present and future Cardinal. Madison Berggren, Aria Fischer, Dani Jackovich, Kat Klass, Jamie Neushul, Kiley Neushul, Jordan Raney and Gabby Stone figured prominently as the U.S. rolled to eight wins and outscored its opponents 127 to 38.
 
The Neushuls powered the United States to a 16-9 victory over Hungary in the gold medal match, each scoring four times. Raney added two goals of her own and Stone played a little over two quarters in the cage and made five saves.
 
Jamie Neushul '17 was the tournament's fourth-leading scorer, pouring in 22 goals on 39 shots, to go along with her team-high four field blocks, seven assists and six steals. Kiley Neushul '15 scored 18 to go with a team-leading 11 assists and 15 of Raney's 21 shots rattled the cage (71.4 percent) while she also led the U.S. with nine steals.
 
Berggren, a rising junior, scored 11 times and had four assists and four steals. Fischer, an incoming freshman, tallied eight goals, five assists, five steals and a pair of field blocks. Klass, another rising junior, collected seven goals on 12 shots to go with two assists and four steals. Jackovich '17 scored three times and had a pair of assists and a pair of steals.
 
Stone '17 was the U.S.'s primary goalkeeper and had a .609 save percentage, stopping 42 of the 69 shots she faced in Taipei.
 
The United States won Group B with victories over France (15-4), Argentina (19-1), Australia (17-3), Italy (16-3) and Greece (18-3). It beat Canada 13-7 in the quarterfinals behind a 10-save performance from Stone and knocked off Japan in the semifinals, 13-8, thanks to five goals from Kiley Neushul before beating Hungary on Tuesday.
