Klass, U.S. Finish Fifth

VOLOS, Greece – Incoming freshman Sarah Klass and the United States finished fifth at the recently concluded FINA Junior World Championship in Greece. Klass played in all seven games and scored six times on 15 shots to go along with a pair of assists.

Klass poured in four in the first two games, twice each in wins over Croatia (24-1) and New Zealand (11-4). She rattled the cage once in a 9-9 tie that wrapped up group play on Sept. 5 and also scored one of the United States' three goals in its 4-3 quarterfinal loss to Greece on Sept. 7. After the defeat, the U.S. would go on to beat Canada (11-9) and Hungary (4-2) to finish the tournament with a 5-1-1 record.

Klass, a driver from San Ramon Valley High School and the younger sister of rising Stanford junior Kat Klass, was a 2015 Cal Hi Sports Bay Area NCS Female Scholar-Athlete and is a four-time NISCA/Speedo Water Polo All-American.

A USA Water Polo veteran, Klass was captain of the USA Women's Cadet National Team that won gold at the 2015 UANA Youth Pan American Championship in Kingston, Jamaica last September. She scored 21 goals and had a pair of five-score outings against Puerto Rico and Mexico in pool play.

Klass was also member of the U.S. squad which placed fifth at the FINA Youth World Championships in New Zealand in December, scoring nine goals in seven games.

She made her debut for the senior women's national team at the FINA Intercontinental Tournament in Davis, Calif. in early May and scored in a 10-6 win over Japan.
