DAVIS, Calif. – A seven-game win streak found its end Saturday as the No. 11 Cardinal defended an intense assault from the Ohio State Buckeyes, only to fall 3-2 in OT in Davis, Calif.
The Cardinal (7-3) came out to push an even-keel first half that saw Stanford strike first with Sarah Johnson scoring on a rebound off a corner for her second goal of the year. OSU (5-5) was able to answer with the equalizer in the 27th minute to send it into the break tied 1-1.
The second half saw the Buckeyes come out hot peppering 10 shots that Kelsey Bing turned away six of to keep Stanford in the game allowing Kristina Bassi to set up Corinne Zonolli for her team-leading eighth goal. The Buckeyes answered in the 61st minute to knot it and send the game into OT.
OSU needed less than two minutes to end it as Casey Cole connected on a shot on the right side that bounced over Bing to claim the 3-2 win.
Stanford will return to action on the road next week facing two intense opponents in Rutgers and Michigan in Ann Arbor, Mich.
