EDEN PRAIRIE, MN. – Freshman Mika Liu fashioned six birdies and an eagle Sunday to help the Stanford women's golf team place third after the first round of the ANNIKA Intercollegiate Presented by 3M at Olympic Hills Golf Club.
Liu eagled the par-4 second hole and turned in 6-under. She finished with a 4-under 68 and shares the individual lead with Robynn Ree of USC.
As a team, the Cardinal combined for a best four-out-of-five total of 6-over 294, and trails first-place Arkansas (288) by six strokes in the stellar 12 school tournament. The event is hosted by LPGA Hall of Famer, Annika Sorenstam.
Stanford played the front nine in 6-under, but slipped to 12-over on the back nine.
Sophomore Andrea Lee added a 74 is tied for 14th, while senior Shannon Aubert shot 75 and is tied for 22nd. Sophomore Albane Valenzuela recorded a 77 and is tied for 37th, and senior Calli Ringsby shot 81 and is tied for 55th.
The second round will be played Monday, followed by the final round on Tuesday. The Cardinal will play with Arkansas and South Carolina, and tees off from 9:50-10:30 a.m. Central Time/7:50-8:30 a.. PT. For live scoring, visit GoStanford.com.
