TULSA, Okla. – The Stanford doubles team of Sameer Kumar and Michael Genender posted back-to-back victories over top-25 opponents to reach the semifinals of the consolation bracket at the ITA All-American Championships.
Kumar and Genender rebounded from a Thursday defeat in the main draw with victories over the No. 11-ranked doubles team of Fabian Fallert and Grey Hamilton of Mississippi and the No. 23-ranked doubles team of Jefta Kecic and Lasse Muscheites of North Florida to earn a spot in Sunday's consolation semifinals.
In a wild semifinal tussle with the No. 29-ranked doubles team of Christopher Kougoucheff and Parker Wynn, the teams traded sets with Louisville prevailing 10-5 in the super tiebreaker.
The match closed a busy week for Kumar and Genender, who both competed individually during the singles competition.
Kumar defeated Tennessee's Scott Jones in straight sets, before dropping a second-round qualifying match to Wisconsin's Chema Carranza in three sets earlier in the week.
Senior David Wilczynski and Genender lost their first-round matches during qualifying round of the event.
